History

edit

Wikimedians in the Bay Area have been organizing meetups and salons since at least 2007. There also used to be a San Francisco User Group which is no longer active. After an interruption during the Covid 2020 Pandemic, a new series of monthly meetups have brought contributors together to work on projects, exchange resources, help new users get started and find community and organize editathons. Starting a user group is a way to continue those efforts by having a structure for people to join.

Contact information

How to join us

edit

Every of our events' attendees are expected to follow the Universal Code of Conduct. User:e_mln_e and User:ElanHR are our safety officers and can be contacted at any time to discuss potential violations. A mediator chosen by members and agreed upon by both parties will be designated. If we find the code of conduct was violated, we will request the violator to refrain from attending meetups in person or online for a set time.

Everyone is welcome to our meetups, but we also have an official process to gain membership: attend three events in a row (online or in person) and fill an online application form confirming you will follow the Universal Code of Conduct. Members are allowed to participate in consensus decisions and mediation process. They are responsible for organizing and hosting events. We hope as we develop to switch to a majority voting process.
