Articles Created at Previous Art+Feminism Edit-a-thons edit

This is a list of articles that Art+Feminism tracks from previous edit-a-thon's output, which also have key article improvement alert templates. These articles will give you different options for the type of editing you might want to do, from adding wiki-links to orphan articles to adding citations, and more.

List is current as of February 10, 2019.

How This List Was Made edit

This list is a subset of the Wikidata Art+Feminism On-Focus List Art+Feminism (Q24909800), which contains all articles edited at A+F Events that are related to the project focus. You can see the full list of 5500 items here: [1]

Because Listeria does not allow for us to cross reference Wikipedia templates, we used Petscan to generate our list, which we converted into wiki markup. This means that our links are based off of the Wikidata item names, which means there will be occasional errors for English Wikipedia articles, and frequent errors for other languages (though articles about people should be accurate). As such, you'll notice some red links below where the wikidata item did not correspond to an article on English Wikipedia.

Technical Steps

Our Petscan query specifies the template and SPARQL query we are cross referencing, and outputs as Wiki. You can see that output here: http://petscan.wmflabs.org/?psid=7646047 (The query may take a while, but it will complete, just be patient!) To get the Wiki output, you will need to change the Output tab to Wiki.

Once you have that Wiki formatted template, you can use the following regular expressions to get rid of all that formatting. Be very careful to select only the characters, and not the whole paragraph line break, or it won't work!

To get rid of the QID text: ^\| \[\[Q[0-9]*\|

To get rid of the trailing numbers: \]\] +\|\|.*$

To get rid of the line break text: \|-\r

If you are unfamiliar with regular expressions, try watching a few quick videos and you will see how powerful they are. I recommend using TextWrangler and doing a search for: "regular expressions textwrangler" though you can probably do the same with any code text editor.

Spanish (ES) wiki list lives here. For the moment, we've only pulled Wikidata for Spanish and English Wikipedia but are open to other languages in the future! Contact us at info@artandfeminism.org for more information.

English Wikipedia Orphan Articles edit

In the Wikipedia glossary, an orphan is defined as "an article with no links from other pages in the main article namespace". These pages can still be found by searching Wikipedia, but it is preferable that they can also be reachable by links from related pages; it is therefore helpful to add links from other suitable pages with similar and/or related information. De-orphaning articles is an important aspect of building the web. This is a really great, simple way for new editors to contribute to Wikipedia!

Citation Problems on English Wikipedia edit

This is also a great place for new editors to get practice in adding citations to existing articles to help make them stick.

Notability on English Wikipedia edit

Below you will find a list of articles that may not meet Wikipedia's general notability guideline. Please help to establish notability by citing reliable secondary sources that are independent of the topic and provide significant coverage of it beyond a mere trivial mention. If notability cannot be established, the article is likely to be merged, redirected, or deleted. This is a task well suited to more experienced editors, as you will need to determine whether or not this article would pass Wikipedia's notability guidelines and then do the due diligence of adding additional text and citations to make the article stick.

In addition to the suggestions below, editors may consider cleaning up articles on more well-known women artists. Helpful updates could be as simple as: Making sure reference links are still appropriate and functional; Adding new inline citations/references; Adding a photo; Adding an infobox; Adding data to more fields in an existing infobox; Creating headings; Adding categories; etc. Editors may also choose to focus on women in design, performing arts, music, architecture, philosophy, politics, etc. See also Wikipedia:WikiProject Women artists/Worklist.

Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos (#WPWP) 2021 edit

A+F is pleased to take part in the 2021 campaign of Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos (#WPWP) 2021. To participate, simply add images to Wikipedia pages, ensuring that your edit summary includes the hashtag #WPWP — this will count each edit.

The campaign was designed to encourage use of imagery already uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, especially from such crowdsourced events and contests like: - Photowalks - Wiki Loves Monuments - Wiki Loves Africa - Wiki Loves Earth - Wiki Loves Folklore

In addition, A+F encourages participants to add images to articles previously created through A+F edit-a-thons. Sandbox and Drafts edit

We strongly encourage new editors to begin by working in their Sandbox to create a well cited paragraph that expands existing short articles, which are called Stubs. Here is a list of 2000 stubs. Begin here: Wikipedia:Meetup/ArtAndFeminism/Stubs
