African Wiki Women Leadership and Fellowship Program Charter
The African Wiki Women Leadership and Mentorship Fellowship (LMF) Program is dedicated to empowering African women by providing them with the tools, support, and opportunities needed to take on leadership roles within the Wikimedia Movement through the Africa Wiki Women organization. Through this program, we aim to create a vibrant and inclusive community where African women can thrive and lead, driving significant contributions and fostering gender equality within the Wikimedia ecosystem.
Vision
To empower African women within the Wikimedia community by fostering leadership skills, providing mentorship, and creating opportunities for them to take on significant roles within the Wikimedia Movement through Africa Wiki Women.
Mission
To bridge the gender gap in leadership within the Wikimedia community by offering a structured program that equips African women with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to assume leadership positions and drive impactful initiatives.
Objectives
- Develop Leadership Skills: Equip participants with the necessary skills to lead on specific roles within Africa Wiki Women Community.
- Provide Mentorship: Offer personalized mentorship to guide participants in their leadership journeys.
- Enhance Visibility: Increase the visibility of the work of these women within the Wikimedia community.
- Enhance Real-World Experience: Provide hands-on experience working with Wikimedia groups and projects in a multicultural environment.
- Promote Sustainability: Encourage continuous development and retention of women leaders in the Wikimedia Movement.
Program Structure
1. Leadership Fellowship Duration: 6 months (subject to renewal) Eligibility: Women Wikimedians in Africa
Roles and Responsibilities
Mentors
Provide guidance, support, and feedback to fellows. Conduct regular one-on-one mentoring sessions. Share leadership insights and best practices. Assist fellows in setting and achieving leadership goals.
Fellows
- Take us specific roles within Africa Wiki Women organization
- Support specific funded projects
- Actively participate in mentorship sessions, workshops, and hands-on projects.
- Set personal and professional development goals.
- Seek feedback and implement suggestions for improvement.
- Contribute to Wikimedia projects and leadership activities.
- Attend and engage in networking events.
- Be a contact person and Africa Wiki Ambassador for your country
Evaluation and Impact Assessment
- Feedback Surveys: Regular surveys to gather feedback from participants about the program’s effectiveness.
- Progress Reports: Fellows submit periodic progress reports to track their development and achievements.
- Impact Metrics: Evaluate the program’s impact based on metrics such as the number of leadership roles assumed, contributions to Wikimedia projects, and community engagement levels.
Sustainability and Growth
Partnerships: Establish partnerships with educational institutions, non-profits, and corporate sponsors to support the program. Alumni Network: Create an alumni network to keep past participants engaged and involved in future initiatives. Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and update the program based on feedback and changing community needs.
