About the Africa Wiki Challenge
The Africa Wiki Challenge is an online campaign that is aimed at generating African-related content on Wikipedia. In this, second edition of the contest, we are pleased to announce that the Africa Wiki Challenge will highlight the diverse culture of Africans hence the theme; African Culture. The competition will run from 25th May to June 30th 2022. The annual competition is aimed at improving the statistics of content about Africa on Wikipedia and its sister projects.
Projecting African Culture as the theme for this year’s Africa Wiki Challenge will solicit written and photo content on;
Tribes in Africa( here, the focus will be on Traditional groups or societies. The people of such groups, their language, their origin, dressing, their political systems, and kinship systems), the diverse Festivals celebrated ( here, Festival celebrations like the Homowo festival in Ghana, the Sango Fire festival in Nigeria and Umkhosi Mhlanga in South Africa and more. The number of days it takes, the processes involved in the celebration and all other important facts that need to be made known to the world), the diverse Food eaten by Africans, ( here, we will be looking at the Elements of African food like recipes, foodstuffs, the origin of food, traditional food, and more). African marriages (what it is called, Components of African marriage like marriage ceremonies, marriage process, traditional marriages, marriage rites and more.) Rites of passage: Diverse African rites the tribes and people in Africa like birth rites, puberty rites, funeral rites. What they are called in the local languages, the processes more.
The campaign will also encourage visualization of these articles by adding/uploading photos, audio or videos.
