A newer look at the interlanguage link/Central wiki style straw poll

If we have a separate wiki for interlanguage links, how should the pages on the central wiki appear? Should they have links in the sidebar, like interlanguage links on the wikis we have now? Or should they appear as a table or list in the content area when the page is viewed?

In either case, users could add explanatory text to the top of the central article.

Definitely in the page itself. I want to divide the links into groups, and add extra information. For the first I am thinking of making a difference between pages that should link to this page and those that should not. Formatting as a list or table also gives the possibility to include the title the page should be going to get in languages where it does not exist yet in a manner that closely mimicks the links to pages that do exist, so they can then be added easily when they come into being. Regarding extra information, at least the actual title should be given, so that someone reading the central wiki can see the title without having to hover or click at specific places. Between table and list I don't have a clear preference, but I'm going for table now because it seems like the one that one can easiest add such information without having to further change the way the interwiki linking works. - Andre Engels 00:44, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think the structure of the page needs to be standardised, so that it is easy for bots to add entries, but the page should look good, and include additional information (like featured/good status) and I can't see a list providing a good experience for the reader. A table sounds better to me. I'm assuming that the column headings would pick up your language preferences? I like the idea of having a column to show status FA etc. Perhaps we could also have a column to show which are merely translations of each other. We also need a template with information showing sufficient key details about the article to disambiguate it, and some hatnotes and disambiguation pages.
