WIKIMEDIA CEE HUB

Regional hub covering Central and Eastern Europe

WELCOME TO THE WIKIMEDIA CEE HUB

During 2023, besides the meetings with the communities from the Central and Eastern Europe, the CEE Hub had numerous meetings with other stakeholders as well. Here is the list of meetings with the organisations and/or individuals outside of the CEE Region with which CEE Hub established contact and started some initiatives:

  1. Wikimedia Foundation
    1. Regular meetings with the Movement Communications regional specialist Natalia Szafran-Kozakowska, which resulted in establishing new initiative CEE Catch Up. In 2023, we organised four Catch Up sessions (General updates and initiatives from the CEE; Youth in the CEE Region; Supporting community health; and Artificial Intelligence and Wikimedia).
    2. Meetings with Chris Koerner from Wikimedia Foundation to look into options of possible creation of a joint CEE Calendar.
    3. Let’s Connect — Wikimedia CEE Hub and members of the Let’s Connect (Gorana Gomirac and Jessica Stephenson) organised two learning sessions: one dedicated to Wiki Loves Earth 2023 (April 2023) and another about Collective learning from reports in the CEECA region (August 2023).
    4. Brand Studio — we had several meetings with the WMF's brand studio from June till December 2023 to explore the option of creating a visual identity for the CEE Hub.
    5. Human Rights Team — one meeting with this special team in the Foundation, where we introduced ourselves and learnt more about their scope of work.
    6. Meetings and cooperation with WMF's Learning and Development Strategist BJiang (WMF) and discussion about possible cooperation during the second year of the CEE Hub project implementation.
  2. Wikimedia Sweden — regular meetings and collaboration from February 2023 to September 2023 with a goal to write and submit a joint regional project application which would be financed by Swedish Institute. In November 2023 we received the feedback about positive evaluation of this project application. If all with contracting goes well, this project should start in the beginning of 2024. The role of the CEE Hub was to connect and support CEE communities which are part of this joint project and to write parts of the grant application. The CEE Hub will also have a role in the project implementation.
  3. Meetings and taking part in Focus group related to Capacity Exchange creation project.
  4. Meeting with the user Rachmat from Indonesia to learn more about ways Wikimedia Indonesia is supporting its numerous language communities.
  5. Meetings with openfoodfacts to explore possible way of cooperation in the future.
  6. Cooperation and meetings with Peter Meyer and Ariel Cetrone from Wikimedia District of Columbia related to sharing knowledge and comparing experiences related to their efforts towards creating a North American Hub.
  7. Attending meetings of the West Africa Hub in order to support their project development
  8. Meetings with EA Regional and Thematic Hub (EARTH) to further exchange and understanding of each others development
