WikiIndaba Conference is the regional conference for Africans both within and in the diaspora. The first edition was held in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2014 by Wikimedia ZA. In 2017 the conference moved to Accra, Ghana, and was organized by Open Foundation West Africa. The 2018 edition was held in Tunis, Tunisia by Wikimedia TN Usergroup, while the Wikimedia UG Nigeria arranged the 2019 in the federal capital, Abuja, FCT. The 2020 edition of the conference was supposed to be held in Kampala, Uganda but was postponed and became a virtual event hosted in 2021 by the Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda. The 2022 edition took place in Kigali, Rwanda, and was hosted by The Wikimedia Community User Group Rwanda. The last edition, in 2023, took place in Agadir, Morocco, and was hosted by the Wikimedia Morocco User Group.


In 2024, Wikimedia ZA is organizing the 8th edition of WikiIndaba in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa.

  • Connecting African Wikimedians both within the continent and in the diaspora
