Zed Wiki Workshop 2025

The ZED Wiki Work Shop 2025, is an coming workshop organized by the Wikimedia Community User Group Zambia, will focus on the theme "Why Wikimedia." This workshop aims to engage participants in discussions about the significance of Wikimedia projects and their role in promoting knowledge sharing, cultural heritage, and community empowerment in Zambia.

Objectives of the Workshop

• Awareness Raising: Educate participants about the various Wikimedia projects and their impact on local communities.
• Capacity Building: Provide training on how to contribute effectively to Wikimedia platforms, including Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons.
• Community Engagement: Foster collaboration among local contributors, educators, and cultural institutions to enhance content related to Zambia on Wikimedia platforms.

Key Themes

1. Promoting Local Knowledge: Emphasizing the importance of documenting Zambian history, culture, and languages on Wikimedia projects.
2. Digital Literacy: Addressing the digital divide by equipping participants with essential skills for navigating and contributing to digital platforms.
3. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Aligning workshop activities with relevant SDGs, particularly those related to education (SDG 4) and reduced inequalities (SDG 10).

Activities Planned

• Workshops and Training Sessions: Interactive sessions covering topics such as editing Wikipedia, using Wikidata for research, and uploading media to Commons.
• Panel Discussions: Inviting experts to discuss the role of Wikimedia in preserving cultural heritage and promoting open access to information.
• Networking Opportunities: Creating spaces for participants to connect with each other and share experiences.

Program Structure for 2025

The program will consist of six events throughout the year, each focusing on different aspects of community engagement, education, and collaboration within the Wikimedia community.
