IntroductioneditBackgroundeditThe Yoruba Wikimedians User Group conducted a Community Insights survey to collect valuable feedback from our members. The survey sought to identify key areas of improvement, understand the needs and challenges faced by contributors, and gather suggestions for fostering a more vibrant and active community. MethodologyeditSurvey DesigneditThe survey was designed to capture both quantitative and qualitative data. It included a mix of multiple-choice questions, Likert scale questions, and open-ended questions to ensure a comprehensive understanding of community members' experiences and opinions. SamplingeditSampling procedureeditA cross-sectional research design was employed to systematically gather data from community members of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group. The sample design aimed for representation and inclusivity, using a systematic sampling approach to select participants. The primary data collection tool was a Google survey form designed for a comprehensive range of perspectives and experiences. The survey exclusively targeted Yoruba Wikimedians User Group members for relevance and specificity. A total of 75 members voluntarily participated, providing a robust dataset. Participation was open to all members, ensuring inclusivity. The collected data underwent thorough analysis to derive meaningful insights and trends, using statistical methods to interpret and present results effectively. The survey focused on understanding community perspectives, assessing engagement levels, identifying challenges and opportunities, promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity, gathering feedback on programs and activities, and obtaining demographic indicators. The survey data exclusively pertained to Yoruba Wikimedians User Group members, ensuring the analysis reflects the community's specific characteristics and needs. Participation was voluntary, and data confidentiality was maintained. The study adhered to ethical standards, ensuring privacy and participants' rights Response rateeditAll members of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group and contributors to the Yoruba Wikipedia and related projects were eligible for the survey. The survey was successfully shared with 80 members of the community through our various closed and opened platforms and a total of 75 members participated yielding a response rate of approximately 94%. he survey ran for a duration of at least 3 months. Out of the 94% of the participants that completed the survey, 58.7% are male and 41.3% are female. Data collectionedit
Data collection noteeditData collection occurred between August 1, 2023, and December 20, 2023, and was conducted by the Learning and Evaluation team at the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group. The team, consisting of two volunteer members and one paid staff member, was responsible for overseeing the process. The team commenced survey deployment on August 1, encouraging members of the user group to complete the survey. To facilitate participation, internet data was provided to those who did not have access.
