Women's Day Workshop in KBP Engg College, Satara

CIS-A2K has collaborated with Rayat Shikshan Sanstha for integrating Wikimedia Projects with academic assignments. It is a reputed 100 year old organisation taking initiatives on important social issues across Maharashtra state. Lek Ladaki Abhiyan is working on women's issues like child marriage, female foeticides, dowry and sexual assaults. The organisation has produced training resources also. On the occasion of Women's Day, alongwith Lek Ladaki Abhiyan, Rayat's KBP Engineering College taken initiative to organise Workshop on Women's issues.

Goals edit

  1. To train participants in editing Wikipedia, upload media on Commons.
  2. To identify gaps in Women related articles on Marathi Wikipedia and try to bridge them.
  3. To have an open interaction on Wikipedia policies,Content development and community building.
  4. To spread the awareness about Wikimedia projects as powerful tools.

Output edit

Women activists from organisations in Satara and some students participated in the workshop. The workshop was aimed at introduction to Wikimedia Projects and creating/editing Wikipedia articles. They were trained in basic editing skills and search for the concerned articles,giving inter-wiki links& references, categorisation and translation from other language wikipedias. The gap finding exercise was carried out regards to women related articles. Many red links were created about issues like Laws for Women, Notable women, major events etc on Women Project page. Participants worked on new and existing articles and made around 300 edits. Around 20 images were uploaded on Commons. It was decided to conduct quarterly edit-a-thons on Women's issues. The training manuals published by the organisation would be re-licensed and uploaded on Commons.
