Wikis World/2023-05

7 months of Wikis World! As of 2023-05-14, we have 109 users (up from last month's 96).

Unfortunately this month we saw spambot attacks come through the flagship mastodon.social instance (thanks to those who sent in reports right away!). At the time we temporarily limited federation to minimize the amount of impact to users, but because of the size of the instance, it has effectively become too big to block. We are glad that the mastodon.social moderators have been working to address the spam issue, but at the same time we encourage users to migrate to smaller or mid-size instances to improve the overall health of the Fediverse. Please reach out to any of our moderators for an invite or even for other instance recommendations if you're not that into wikis.

The RealMe MediaWiki extension, which allows users to verify their userpage, is now deployed on the "Beta Cluster" for testing, one of the prerequisites for the real production deployment.

Some of us will be at the Wikimedia Hackathon next week, come find us and say hi! We'll be encouraging people to sign up and distributing invites in-person.
