Wikimedians of North India/Meetups/Wiki Content Enrichment Tour, Kerla - March 2020

Wikimedians of North India/Meetups/Cultural Heritage Mapping of Kapurthala area - Feb 2020 is a a tour cum photowalk event organised by Harvinder Chandigarh, the founder member of the User Group Wikimedians of North India. The event was conducted mainly to make enhancement and enrichment in content related to Kerla State, one of the 10th most popular tourist destination of India. As per National Geographic's Traveller magazine 2012 named Kerala as one of the "ten paradises of the world" and "50 must see destinations of a lifetime". Similarly Travel and Leisure also described Kerala as "One of the 100 great trips for the 21st century". In 2012, it crossed the Taj Mahal to be the number one travel destination in Google's search trends for India. CNN Travel rated Kerala amongst its '19 best places to visit in 2019'. Kerla has rich natural and cultural heritage sites diverse flora and fauna and landscape.During this special organised tour effort will be made to cover all these aspects including the Cultural and Natural Heritage sites of the historically important places of the State and other adjoining areas such as Kanyakumari. The tour was organised from Chandigarh; therefore, important objects and subjects on the way were also covered under the event. There are many temples which the Archaeological Survey of India has declared 'protected monuments' due to their historical significance.

Objective edit

  • To take images of historically and culturally important sites and upload on Commons.
  • To create new content on Wikipedia.
  • To enrich the existing content on Wikipedia by adding relevant images to it.
  • To create awareness about Wikipedia in the the local community.
