A one day wikimedia education programme was organized on 5th august 2023, Kodiyathur, Calicut. The Wikimedia Education Program of this Campus was resounding success with enthusiastic participation of students and the unwavering support of the college management. In collaboration with the Wikimedians of Kerala, this program aimed to introduce 96 carefully selected students from various grades to the world of Wikimedia.

Student Participation edit

A total of 96 students, chosen for their keen interest in the Wikimedia Education Program, showcased remarkable enthusiasm and engagement.

Focus on Wikidata edit

The students began their journey by delving into Wikidata, focusing on creating ten Wikidata items related to women district collectors of Kerala. They meticulously crafted these items, ensuring they included all relevant statements. Additionally, some student groups contributed to enhancing Wikidata entries related to renowned IAS officers from India, augmenting the existing information.

  • Local Area Contributions: The students also dedicated their efforts to improving Wikidata items associated with their local areas. They added crucial details such as coordinate locations, continents, and countries, thereby enriching the knowledge base.
  • Inauguration: The program was inaugurated by Thasnim, the Director of FACE Campus, while the inaugural function was presided over by Ashif.

Future Contributions edit

The students expressed their eagerness to continue actively contributing to Wikimedia projects in the days ahead.

Recognition and Appreciation edit

To acknowledge and motivate the students for their commendable efforts, the Wikimedians of Kerala presented umbrellas as tokens of appreciation to the most dedicated contributors. This recognition event took place during an esteemed CAMPUS DAY event, graced by distinguished individuals, including Dr. T.P. Sreenivasan IFS (Former Indian Ambassador), MJ Joseph IAS, Kamalkutty IAS, and others.

The Wikimedia Education Program at FACE Campus, Kodiyathur, Kerala, not only introduced students to the world of Wikimedia but also inspired them to actively engage in contributing to open knowledge projects. We commend the students for their dedication and look forward to their continued participation in Wikimedia activities.
