Wikimedians of Kerala/Events/The Springs International School Wikimedia Education Programme

On the 27th of July 2023, a one-day Wikimedia educational program was conducted at "The Springs International School," Tana, Nilambur, Kerala, India. This event aimed to introduce students and teachers to the Wikimedia ecosystem, encompassing platforms such as Wikidata, Wikipedia, Wikisource, Wikimedia Commons, and more. The program sought to create an engaging and educational environment for participants, fostering contributions to Wikipedia and various other Wikimedia projects. Additionally, it had the mission of promoting teamwork, collaboration, and critical thinking among the attendees.

Local Area Contributions

The students were tasked with creating Wikidata items for their respective local areas. They approached this task with dedication and precision, meticulously adding statements to enhance the depth and accuracy of information about their localities on Wikidata. These statements included specifying the instance of the area, continent, country, administrative territory, time zone, references, and sub-classifications, thus significantly enriching the dataset.

Exploration of Wikimedia Ecosystem

The workshop extended beyond Wikidata, giving the students an opportunity to explore other Wikimedia platforms, including Wikimedia Commons and Wikiquote. This broader exposure allowed them to discover a wealth of multimedia resources and insightful quotes available within the Wikimedia ecosystem.
