Press releases
editWe have issued a press release about the Verbindingsprijs 2024 a new initiative of Wikimedia Netherlands. With this prize, we want to annually honour special contributions to the promotion of free knowledge. Individuals, organisations, collaborations, projects and initiatives in the Netherlands, Flanders, Suriname, and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom are invited to apply or nominate someone. The award will be presented for the first time on 18 May during WikiconNL, the annual conference of Wikimedia Netherlands.
Gendergap & LGBT+
editSince this year, the WikiSaturdays have been back! Two meetings were held on 3 and 17 February to perpetuate the Gendergap working group, after which WikiSaturdays were held every second Saturday of the month. The first took place on 9 March and was on the occasion of International Women's Day. A day earlier, on International Women's Day itself, there was a private meeting aimed at first-time editors from the creative sector. There were three Wiki Fridays on Friday 26 January, Friday 23 February and Friday 29 March. The latter themed with the exhibition "Roze Reuzen" and it included a short tour and introduction by a historian.
GLAM
editTo further help our GLAM-partners with hosting their collections on Wikimedia Commons, we hosted a meeting on the 21st of March that included a tutorial on Open Refine. Our GLAM-partners loved the meet-up and decided to set up informal and recurring meetings at their respective institutions to get together and work on Wikimedia-projects.
Wiki Goes Caribbean
editIn collaboration with the Nationaal Archief (National Archives) and the Dutch Caribbean Book Club we organized a well attended Wiki Goes Caribbean meeting on the 23d of March in The Hague. The attendees focused on the multiple perspectives found in the archives, both on documents and photographic material and learned how to add these perspectives to Wikimedia projects.
One of our volunteers set up a writing for Wikipedia-session on the 26th of February together with the University of Curaçao. Volunteers from The Netherlands provided online support.
Public Domain Day
editPublic Domain Day commemorates to addition of new work into the Public domain. Wikimedia Nederland organized a workshop on uploading pictures to Wikimedia Commons at the Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid in Hilversum. Pictures taken by Emmy Eugenie Andriesse, a member of the resistance during the Second World War, were among those uploaded to Commons.
LI-MA
editThe project in collaboration with LI-MA (Living Media Art) to add Media Artists to Wikipedia is ongoing. LIMA hosted an edit-a-thon in West, the former US embassy in the Hague, on the 28th of march.
