Wikipedia community nominated for Jan van Luxemburg Prize edit

The community behind the Dutch-language Wikipedia has been nominated for the Jan van Luxemburg Prize. This prize was established in memory of twentieth-century literary scholar Jan van Luxemburg (1936-2012), who inspired people to read.

The Jan van Luxemburg programme is a small-scale initiative whose objectives include highlighting people and programmes that encourage others to read and to love literature.

WikiconNL: Terug naar de toekomst edit

On Saturday 19 November, over 100 people travelled to Utrecht to attend WikiconNL. It was nice to meet physically again at our annual conference, which was dedicated to 'Terug naar de toekomst' ('Back to the Future'). Because after two years of living with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to turn our gaze forward again and look together at how to future-proof our Wikimedia community and projects. MEP Kim van Sparrentak kicked off with a session on the tension between free knowledge and European copyright reform. After this, participants divided into various sessions within three tracks including a hybrid global track. The day ended with the signing of the Sustainability Covenant and a very exciting Wikispeedrun, after which participants went home with a bag full of Wiki merchandise. We look back on a great conference day and for those who want to reminisce, check out the pictures on Wikimedia Commons.

Maand van de Geschiedenis: Wat een ramp! edit

October was 'De Maand van de Geschiedenis' (History Month), with this year's theme "Wat een ramp!" ("What a disaster!"). Around 500 institutions organised around 800 activities in total. Wikimedia Netherlands organised a writing competition during the month to improve and expand information on (environmental) disasters and water disasters. Hurricanes, explosions and floods ... six Wikipedians wrote 27 articles about them and two photographers provided photos of the National Firefighting Monument and the Watersnoodmonument.

Wiki Loves Fashion edit

The first Dutch edition of the Wiki Loves Fashion project ran from September 19 to October 30. Several articles about textiles, fashion, material and history were written and edited. For this project, WMNL collaborated with the Library in Hengelo, the Palthe Huis in Oldenzaal and the MuseumFabriek in Enschede. Check out the pictures & the blog.

Three meetings have taken place:

- 22 september

- 7 oktober

- 26 oktober (English spoken)

Gendergap & LGBTI edit

This quarter there were three WikiFridays. On October 21 there was a meeting with the theme 'witches'. Together with LIMA, there was a themed edition about female media artists on November 4, and the last walk-in WikiFriday of this year was held on December 2.

500 photos for Wiki Loves Monuments Suriname edit

In September, the Built Heritage Foundation Suriname organised Wiki loves Monuments in Suriname for the first time. More than 553 photos of monuments in the country's various districts were submitted by 29 participants. The contest yielded valuable material in the form of freely usable photos of monuments that did not yet have a recent photo on Wikimedia Commons, or of monuments that have recently been illegally demolished, a recurring problem in Suriname. Thus, the photo contest makes an important contribution to documenting this heritage. On Wednesday, 16 November, the jury determined the best 10 photos to be submitted to the international competition.
