WikiconNL edit

Over 80 people took part on Saturday 13 November in WikiconNL, the online conference on Wikipedia, Wikimedia, digital heritage and topics like copyright and (linked) open data. Volunteers showed how they edit Wikipedia, often with a new angle: a focus on images, maps, or articles written partly with a script based on Wikidata. Partners from the cultural sector, such as Het Nieuwe Instituut and Naturalis, discussed the use of Wikimedia projects for Linked Open Data. The conference also showed challenges in the field of more diverse content: how can Wikimedia projects better describe the reality of intersex people, which bias can be discovered through research in Wikidata, and how can the Sustainable Development Goals be properly embedded in Wikipedia. The conference was rounded off with the playful look at social media: Annie Rauwerda, the manager of the wildly popular Instagram account Depths of Wikipedia, treated the visitors to a 'Wacky Wikipedia Trivia' quiz. You can find recordings, slides and screenshots from the conference on Wikimedia Commons.
