Month of History Writing Competition

As part of History Month (Maand van de Geschiedenis), this year's theme "At work", Wikipedians have been writing new articles, adding images to articles and adding new images to Wikimedia Commons. In total, 8 new articles were written, 29 pictures were added to existing articles and 4 new pictures were added about glassblowing. The content of one article was also completed and improved. Media art on Wikipedia

Initiator LIMA, the expertise centre for media art in the Netherlands, wants to make media art from Dutch collections more accessible for a broad audience and generate more visibility for this still underexposed art form through the project Media Art on Wikipedia. One of the goals is to publish 500 Wikipedia articles about media artists and their works from the collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the RCE, the Van Abbemuseum, the Frans Hals Museum and LIMA.

In October, 30 students from the Open University and Utrecht University were guests at the Van Abbemuseum for three writing sessions. They discovered media artworks from the collection, did research and chose artists/works that appealed to them to write about for Wikipedia. The articles will soon be published.
