New partnership?

edit

WMNL has had a first meeting with potential new partners for our work with Libraries and Educational Institutions in the province of Utrecht.

Regionaal Archief Alkmaar

edit

The RAA uploaded 158 digitized glass negatives made by Dutch photographer Abram Joseph Bonda (1872-1928). Most of the photos were made in Bergen, Noord-Holland, with some nearby places documented as well. The images were uploaded by RAA staff using Pattypan. Interestingly, some of the images from this collection were already transferred from Flickr to Commons but with less metadata than the archive provided in their upload (limited metadata is common in uploads using Flickr2Commons). They're currently looking into uploading another early 20th century collection of images of Den Helder. The Bonda collection can be accessed here.

Open Science Wikisprint

edit

In June, a follow-up to the Open Science Wikisprint at Utrecht University in February was held at the KB, The Hague. 8 people, including staff from WMNL and various universities and open science organisations attended.

A second Wikimedia workshop (out of three) was held at the ISS on June 20. As with the previous workshop in April, the workshop was intended to interest ISS staff, students, and PhDs for the Wikimedia movement and to tell them why it is important to contribute and/or support the movement, not only during their stay at the ISS but also afterwards during their professional careers. Presentation here.

ITV Vertaalprogramma

edit

During Q1/2, three students finished their internships in the Wikimedia translation program. They translated a total of 36 articles from English and German. On average, each student translates 25,000 words. Translated articles vary in topic, ranging from nl:Grand tour van de Mozarts door Europa to nl:Vereinigungsgesellschaft für Steinkohlenbau im Wurmrevier and nl:Hester Stanhope. However, there's currently a backlog in getting the articles from project space to main article space.
