Workshop

  • Time needed:

90 minutes

  • Narrate your plan in details:

The Global Advocacy team would like to host a workshop during WMWM India 2022 to connect with and learn from community members in the region. This workshop is designed to introduce the newly formed Global Advocacy team (including a new community manager and SE Asia policy expert) and to understand how to better collaborate with the Indian Wikimedia community. Protecting and promoting the open web movement is not something that can happen behind closed doors at the Foundation, nor can these activities be limited to North America and Europe. The Global Advocacy team is committed to involving community voices around the world to champion the open web.

The session will be designed as a brainstorming event in which participants will be split into smaller groups to discuss their ideas about: improving awareness about WMF public policy actions; ensuring community members have their voices heard when policy actions are determined; engaging community members in policy actions; offering incentives for community members who wish to be more involved with global advocacy actions. Through this session, we can set the foundation for deeper collaboration between the Global Advocacy team and community members so that the movement can continue to flourish across the region.

  • Any support you need:

TBC. Probably translation so that we can engage more community members.

  • How will this session be beneficial for the communities in India?:

This session is an opportunity for the communities in India to be more involved with the public policy team, learn about our priorities and how these reflect the interests of the overall movement, as well as how they may build their own advocacy skills. Above all, attendees will have a chance to connect with like-minded individuals across the movement.
