Overview

Wikimedia Usergroup Nigeria, Northeast Network is a group of Wikimedia residents in the Northeast of Nigeria that contributes to the WNUG activities in line with Wikimedia Foundation projects. The group is open to collaboration, and knowledge sharing with individuals/groups that share the same objectives. The group has a formal and cordial relationship with the Wikimedia Nigeria.

Objectives

• Drive Wikimedia awareness to increase local participation of Northeast residents in the Wikimedia Foundation projects.
• To train volunteers on editing and content creation to bridge the information gap relating to the region on the Wikimedia platform.
• organize capacity building for editors to increase the sustainability of the community.
• Promote Wikipedia as an open educational resource (OERs), Reading Wikipedia in Classroom programs in complementing teaching and learning in high schools and institutions.
• Facilitates the establishment of Fan-clubs in the region's higher institutions.
• Establish EduWiki clubs in high schools to promote media and information literacy

Events

• Wikipedia Awareness and Training in Gombe held in March 2022, was the first of it kind Wikipedia promotion in Gombe State aimed at introducing the teeming youth population to Wikimedia Projects and trained them on how to actively contribute in showcasing cultural, language, peoples and historical events to open access and knowledge repository like Wikipedia. Meeting

First Online Meetup
The community held its first online meetup on December 31st, 2022. During the meeting, the year-end was reviewed - successes, challenges - and plans for the year 2023. Maiden excos were constituted to manage the affairs of the community. Merit was elected President, Salis was elected as the Secretary and Umar will serve as the project manager.
