Wikimedia User Group Nigeria/Wikimedia Fan Club, University of Ilorin/Annual report 2019-2020

Wikimedia Fan Club University of Ilorin, is a hub for undergraduate, postgraduate students and staff of University of Ilorin with the purpose of contributing to Wikimedia and her related projects.

This is the annual report of Wikimedia Fan Club, University of Ilorin. This report includes all activities of the club from December 2019 to November 2020.

  • December 2019 - Community Meetup at the Wikimedia Fan Club, University Of Ilorin

Wikimedia Community Meetup provided an avenue for members of the club to engage and improve their knowledge on various skills and opportunities Wikimedia has to offer and network with other Wikipedians on campus. The training seeks to align the new stream of emerging editors with the community policies and practices that have kept Wikipedia's standard and there will be a special session set aside to train members of the club about Copyrights and Licences.

1Lib1Ref is a Wikipedia campaign inviting every librarian on Earth to participate in the online encyclopedia project, specifically improving articles by adding citations.

  • February 2020 - Wiki Loves Africa 2020 at the Wikimedia Fan Club, University Of Ilorin

Wiki Loves Africa (WLA) is an annual contest where anyone across Africa can contribute media that is relevant to their experience to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation. The team for this year is "Transportation". It was organised by the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria, and the club won the prize for the highest contributions among other clubs in the country.

  • March 2020 - Art and Feminism at the University of Ilorin

Art and Feminism is a global campaign to bridge the knowledge/gender gap The project was cancelled due to the outbreak of the Corona Virus pandemic and subsequent closure of universities in the country.

  • July - August 2020 - WPWP Contest at University of Ilorin

Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos (WPWP) is an annual campaign where Wikipedians across Wikipedia language projects and communities add photos to articles lacking images. This is to promote the use of digital media files collected from various WP photography contests, organized by the Wikimedia community, on Wikipedia article pages. The club organised a local contest, and one of the club members was a winner in the global contest.
