Opening address by Ms. Lina Eidmark

Good afternoon, and many thanks to the organizers and volunteers who are making this event possible.

My name is Lina Eidmark and I work at the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok. Previously I was the initiator and global project leader of WikiGap – that’s why it is with an extra happy heart I address you today.

The Swedish government is a feminist government. It means that we believe that women should have the same rights and opportunities as men. Gender equality is at core in everything we do, and our action is focused around 3 R’s:

• Rights – women should have the same rights as men
• Resources – women should be able to access the same resources as men
• Representation – women should be represented in all levels and areas of society.

Wikipedia, like the rest of the world, is not gender balanced. About 20% of the biographies are about women. WikiGap wants to change that, by bringing volunteers together to edit articles about women.

So far, WikiGap events have been arranged in more than 60 countries, engaging more than 2 500 participants who have written or edited more than 50 000 Wikipedia articles in more than 30 different languages. The articles have reached more than 100 million views. That’s 100 million times where women have been made visible and contributed to a more gender balanced version of the world.

I am so happy that you have chose to join this activity in Thailand this year. Maybe, this could inspire Thai girls and boys, to see that a true gender equal future is possible.

กราบสวัสดีตอนบ่ายและขอขอบคุณทีมผู้จัดและทีมอาสาสมัครที่ทำให้เกิดกิจกรรมนี้ขึ้นได้

ดิฉันชื่อ Lina Eidmark และดิฉันทำงานที่สถานทูตสวีเดนประจำกรุงเทพฯ แต่ก่อนดิฉันเป็นผู้ริเริ่มและหัวหน้าของโครงการ WikiGap ด้วยเหตุผลนี้ดิฉันจึงมีความยินดีอย่างยิ่งที่ได้พูดคุยกับทุกท่านในวันนี้

รัฐบาลสวีเดนเป็นรัฐบาลสตรีนิยม สิ่งนี้แสดงให้เห็นถึงความเชื่อของพวกเราที่ว่าผู้หญิงควรได้รับสิทธิและโอกาสเท่าเทียมกับผู้ชาย ความเสมอภาคระหว่างเพศเป็นหัวใจหลักในทุกสิ่งที่พวกเราทำ โดยสิ่งที่พวกเราทำนั้นเพ่งเล็งไปยัง 3 ปัจจัย คือ

• Rights สิทธิ – ผู้หญิงควรได้รับสิทธิเท่าเทียมกับผู้ชาย
• Resources ทรัพยากร – ผู้หญิงควรสามารถเข้าถึงทรัพยากรได้อย่างเท่าเทียมกับผู้ชาย
• Representation ภาพแทน – ผู้หญิงควรมีภาพตัวแทนในทุกระดับและด้านของสังคม

วิกิพีเดียมีความไม่เท่าเทียมระหว่างเพศเหมือนกับสถานที่อื่นๆ บนโลก เพียงแค่ 20 เปอร์เซ็นต์ของบทความชีวประวัติบนวิกิพีเดียนั้นเกี่ยวกับผู้หญิง WikiGap อยากเปลี่ยนแปลงสิ่งนี้โดยการชักจูงอาสาสมัครให้เขียนแก้ไขบทความเกี่ยวกับผู้หญิง

ณ ปัจจุบัน กิจกรรม WikiGap ได้ถูกจัดขึ้นในมากกว่า 60 ประเทศ และส่งเสริมผู้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมมากกว่า 2,500 คนให้เขียนและแก้ไขบทความบทวิกิพีเดียมากกว่า 50,000 บทความเป็นมากว่า 30 ภาษา โดยบทความเหล่านี้มียอดเข้าชมเป็นจำนวนมากกว่า 100 ล้านการเข้าชม ถือเป็นจำนวนครั้งที่ผู้หญิงมีตัวตนเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างมองเห็นได้ 100 ล้านครั้ง และเป็นการส่งเสริมให้โลกเรามีความเท่าเทียมระหว่างเพศมากขึ้น

ดิฉันรู้สึกยินดีจริงๆ ที่พวกท่านตัดสินใจเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมในประเทศไทยปีนี้ ในอนาคตสิ่งนี้สามารถเป็นแรงบันดาลใจทำให้เด็กๆ มองเห็นได้ว่าอนาคตที่เต็มไปด้วยความเสมอภาคระหว่างเพศนั้นสามารถมีขึ้นจริงได้
