Background

Dept. of Mathematics offers a PG course M.Sc. IMCA (Industrial Mathematics with Computer Applications). The students of this course are familiar with .NET, JAVA, C++, DBMS, HTML, CSS etc.

Objectives

The objective of the workshops was us to understand how really the wikipedia works and what all career opportunities we have related to wikipedia and moreover how can we contribute to the enrich the open source knowledge that would help all.

  • Note: It is compulsory to bring laptop. All are requested to bring personal wifi device, if you have any, as the internet connection of the venue is slow and not sufficient for all participants.

Proposed Program Schedule

Day 1

  • 10:00 to 10:15 am: Introductory and welcome message by you or representative from college.
  • 10:15 to 10:35: Introduction by Subodh Kulkarni about Marathi Wikipedia and sister projects.
  • 10:35 to 11:20: Account creation check and general introduction to Wikipedia , MediaWiki, and Wiki.
  • 11:20 to 11:40: Tea break
  • 11:45 to 13:30: Wikipedia structure, article structure, namspeaces, Common.css and Common.js page, gagdets.
  • 13:30 to 14:10: Lunch
  • 14:15 to 15:45: Gadgets, scripts, tools
  • 15:45 to 16:00: Tea break
  • 16:00 to 17:00: Bots- introduction
  • 17:00 to 18:30: Explore yourself (optional session)

Day 2

  • 09:30 to 11:30: tools and bots sessions continue, based on reflections of the first day, and advanced tools and bots like Archive Bot, Sign bot, Anti-vandalism bots etc will be shown (second
  • 11:30 to 11:45: tea
  • 11:45 to 13:30: Phabricator and other remaining topics related to tools etc, based on reflections
  • 13:30 to 14:00: Lunch
  • 14:00 to 15:30: Project and future activities plan
