Wikimedia Promotion in Akure

Akure is the capital and largest city of Ondo State. The city had a population of 403,000 as at the 2006 population census. Its currently accommodates close to a million people, in addition to having a University of Technology, Federal College of Agriculture, School of Nursing and Midwifery, and School of Health Technology, writers' clubs and association and a host of other institutions spread across its community. Despite the advantageous advancements in the community, there is an absolute dearth of editors, not to even talk of projects that seek to promote Wikipedia in the community.

The aim of the project is to premiere the first Wikimedia promotion campaign/training in Akure for the overall ascendancy of new editors as well as raising and inspiring the emergence of active champions of the Wikipedia projects. The creation of Wikipedia and its sister's project awareness in Akure is targeted towards laying a solid foundation for the widespread adoption and use of Wikimedia products among youths in the community.

Also, the proposed month long activity has the potential to bridge the content gaps that exist about articles on different topics with the help of experienced editors; many notable local and international scholars, organizations, tourist attraction sites such as the historical and research places, and many more in Akure do not have wide coverage on Wikipedia.

4. Every newly created wikidata item attract 1.5 points

5. Every reference added to a Wikipedia article is 1 point

6. For each 1kb words added to a Wikipedia article with notable reference attract 2 points
