Wikimedia MKD organization activities edit
Wikimedia MKD continues to carry out the structural and organization activities related to the official registration of the organization as a legal entity in Macedonia. The documents needed for such finalization of the process are handed over to the official authorities in Macedonia and the final registration document is expected to be issued in the first half of February 2024. Wikimedia MKD programmes, staff and activities are already consolidated and functionality established. The official establishing of Wikimedia MKD as a legal entity in Macedonia was on 27-2-2024.
Wikimedia MKD's GLAM Programme edit
As one of three main programmes of Wikimedia MKD, GLAM programme includes various different activities and subprojects with GLAM Institutions. Wikimedia MKD continues to maintain the excellent and productive collaboration with GLAM Institutions that it has signed a contract for collaboration with, and also seeks to find new GLAM partners and collaborators.
As it was the case with the previous years, GLAM activities were thematic and focused on a one broader topic. Volunteers and members of the organization worked on a given theme though workshops, editing sessions, camps, clubs and training sessions.
This years theme for GLAM activities is 'Climate and Climate Changes'. Through its programme activities Wikimedia MKD tries to create new content on Wikipedia and its related projects on the given topic, as well as improve the existing ones.
Editing Days edit
Editing days is an activity that lasts for the whole year in organization of Wikimedia MKD. Each Tuesday and Thursday different topics are given and the participants create or improve existing articles. In February 2024 there were in total 9 editing days, where participants edited on different topics in order to enrich the content of Wikipedia. The editing days and the topics were:
- 1.2.2024 - Maritime paintings
- 6.2.2024 - Vegetables
- 8.2.2024 - Puppets
- 13.2.2024 - Croat people
- 15.2.2024 - Shoes
- 20.2.2024 - Churches in Romania
- 22.2.2024 - Banking
- 27.1.2024 - Government ministries of the Netherlands
- 29.1.2024 - Giants
Cumulatively, 5 different users took part in these calls and edited. In total, 63 new articles were created during the editing days in February 2024.
Editing Weekends edit
Editing weekends is another project that is organized during the whole year. During weekends (Saturday and Sunday) user are welcomed to take part in this project activity and improve or enrich Macedonian Wikipedia content. During these weekends, the participants are expected to edit articles on given topics. In February 2024 the following editing weekends were organized:
- 3-4 February 2024 - Pottery
- 10-11 February 2024 - Coal
- 17-18 February 2024 - Pharmacy
- 24-25 February 2024 - Artists
In total, during these weekends there were 4 different users editing on the given topics and they created 40 new articles on the Macedonian Wikipedia.
Editing competition "Genetics" edit
The beginning of 2024 proved to be quite busy for Wikimedia MKD. Besides the organization activities, Wikimedia MKD focused on successful implementation of its projects and programmes. February was a month when several activities were successfully organized and implemented. One of those successfully realized tasks was the editing competition 'Genetics'.
The editing competition lasted from 1 February and it ended on 29 February 2024. The competition called all Wikipedia users to take part in the competition by creating new and improving the existing content on the given topic. The competitors were expected to create new articles about the genetics, or improve the existing ones. The organizers planned awards for the most productive and most successful editors that met the criteria for awarding. The three-member jury went through the articles of all editors that took part in the competition and it graded them as per the rules of the competition.
After the end of the competition, Wikipedia in Macedonian got XX new articles, XX were improved significantly and in total XX different users participated in this February competition.
The final results revealed the awarded users, as follows:
- I Award - name with total XX points,
- II Award - name with total XX points,
- III Award - name with total XX points.
Besides these three awards, the competition gave the following awards as well:
- Award for best article - name for the article NAME OF ARTICLE
- Award for the best new competitor - NAME
- Special Award (user with most published articles for various human haplogroups): NAME
Wikimedia MKD is proud to announce that the success of the competition significantly improved Macedonian Wikipedia content on the given topic.
1Lib1Ref 2024 edit
Wikimedia MKD's call for participation in the 1Lib1Ref 2024 was announced in January 2024. This year this editing competition started on 15 January and ended on 5 February 2024. The goal of this editing competition is to improve the sources and references of articles on the Macedonian Wikipedia. The participants could also take part in the international call as well, with the same goals and participation rules.
The rules for participation was that the participants should find articles that have no sources or articles that need further sourcing, then to find appropriate reliable sources and put them in the articles. The first three most productive editors are qualified for the three awards planned for this editing competition.
The editing competition ended on 5 February 2024, where 7 users took part in and 4248 references were added in 999 articles. The final standing of the first three most productive users are as follows:

Wikiexperiments 2024 edit
Since 2015 Wikiexperiments is a project that proves to be very valuable for Wikipedia users and the general public interested in science. The success of the project keeps this programme running for more than 9 years, in collaboration with various different scientific institutions in Macedonia.
Wikiexperiments 2024 took place on 15-02-2024 at the Institute of Chemistry, University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. Like the last year's programme, this year the staff of the Institute started doing chemistry experiments while Wikimedia MKD's team member recorded the experiments in High Definition Video Format. The final results, which are the videos, are uploaded on Commons for free use on Wikimedia projects.
Wikiexperiments started at 10:00 local Macedonian time at the Laboratory of the Institute for Chemistry. The experiments were conducted by three professors at the Institute: Professor Marina Stojanovska, Professor Vladimir Petruševski and Professor Miha Buklevski.

Geoexpeditions 2024 edit
Wikimedia MKD’s geoexpeditions continue to be realized in 2024. As it was the case with the previous years, this year Wikimedia MKD’ s team tries to explore the natural, geographical and cultural-historical features of Macedonia.
On 18-02-2024 Wikimedia MKD conducted its first geoexpedition for the year. Namely, Wikimedia MKD team organized and successfully conducted one-day geoexpedition in Stanci Waterfalls and Ploče Litotelmi, in Eastern Macedonia.
The goal of the expedition is to take photographic and video materials of these two locations for the purposes of enriching Wikipedia content and its related projects. Moreover, the team gathered information about the locations and its surroundings, including more important cultural landmarks.
