Wikimedia Kaduna Connect

Wikimedia Kaduna Connect is a part of the Wikimedia Nigeria User Group, formed to serve wikimedians in Kaduna and Nigeria. The group aims to promote the use of Wikimedia projects by residents of Nigeria, and is looking for like-minded individuals who are eager to learn and contribute.

Objective of Wikimedia Kaduna Network

To promote Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects in Kaduna State.

To improve the quality and quantity of underrepresented Nigerian content on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

To use Wikimedia projects as crucial tools for educational learning in Nigeria.

To support the mission of the Wikimedia Foundation.

To support the growth, development, and distribution of free educational materials in Nigeria.

Activities

Training: the network will be a hub for organizing in - person and online training on wikimedia projects.

Meetups: the hub shall be hosting physical meeting and online in - person meet ups for it's members in order to exchange ideas and also train new members, discuss challenges and way forwards.

Editing Contests: the hub will be organizing editing contests in order to monitors and improve the skills of it's members.

Collobrating: the hub will collobrate with other groups or organizations for the progress of Wikimedia projects

Activities of 2023

Our first training was done on the 16th of may 2023 celebrating African Librarians Week physical awareness and training among students and staff of federal polytechnic Kaduna.

Wikimedia Kaduna Network was officially launched on 28th September, 2023 by the leadership of Wikimedia User Group Nigerian.

Activities of 2024

Wiki Loves Librarians, Kaduna is first project of 2024 which start 10th of January and ended 5th of February, 2024 link to outreachdashboard https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Wikimedia_Kaduna_Network/Wiki_Loves_Librarians,_Kaduna/home
International women's Day Celebration in March 2024. In this campaign wikipedia articles about women was improved and wikidata items were created. To achieve this wikimedia Kaduna Network collobrate with Association of women Librarians in Nigeria Kaduna and the National Library of Nigeria, Kaduna state with 10 secondary schools students were in attendance on the Physical meet-up. Wikimedia User Group Nigerian Leadership retreat was done in may, 2024 at Lagos, which the president of the network was part of participants. To improved all networks in Nigeria several discussion was in Place.
