Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees/Call for feedback: Community Board seats/Reports/2021-02-17 Meeting with Wikimedia Thailand

Regional Representation

One person from Wikimedia Thailand think it should be standardized for example a large community; like other regions are larger than ESEAP, those larger regions deserve more seats. The Foundation should also look into the amounts of contributions in each region for example ESEAP may have less contributions coming from the African community but the Global North community may have more contributors, more editors, more readers, or even more donations. Those factors may also be taken into account as well. But the idea of having one hub one seat to ensure that everyone has their voice heard equally is also a good idea. So it’s also kind of a conflict between him and himself, the normalization of a seat depending on how large a community is. That’s fine and the other side of it is fine also. So at the end of the day, it really depends on the majority’s decision.

Specialization Seats

The community lead opined that for the nomination and or selection of the specialization seats, Board and the community should come together to discuss who is the potential candidate and ask them to participate in the election. But for the nomination of the regional seat candidates, they can nominate themselves, that’s okay.
