Abstract

It is a well-known fact that Samskrit literature is the oldest literature in the whole world. Right from the Vedic times, most of the literature must have been composed and transferred to the subsequent generations vocally. Later on, these were written on palm leaves, birch bark, metals, clothes, paper etc. called manuscripts. But even these manuscripts must have been done many, many years ago. In course of time, they might have deteriorated. Some might have even become extinct. With the invention of printing technology, the knowledge in the manuscripts were transferred to books. Even the books that were printed in the initial days of the printing age are deteriorating because of the poor quality of paper and ink. Few books are already lost due to many natural reasons like parasites, silver fish etc. So how to preserve this priceless treasure of knowledge from further damage?

Wikisource is a project precisely set up for this purpose. The project on hand (as mentioned above) is to upload and digitize the available literature in Wikisource.

If done properly, this will be our permanent treasure for the whole world.

How does your proposal add knowledge to the international community in Wikimedia and education

Clearly the study findings are giving us another picture to think deeper and show some challenges of uses of Wiki in education; we will also have a way forward discussion with the audience. So that, we are sure the study findings and way forwards discussion will be guiding the communities who are having same challenges.

Who is the intended ideal audience for the topic?

Contributors to Wikisource are the ideal audience.
