2024-09-02: Mobile Photography Micro Contest starts

2024-09-02: WikiChomoutov is a great example of local community participation

On Saturday 31 August 2024, a neighbourhood festival was held in the local part of Olomouc, the former independent village of Chomoutov, north of the city centre. It was organised for the second year by the local association Los vesinos, whose representatives participated in the online training How to get your topic on Wikipedia in June this year (youtube recording). The result of the collaboration was an exhibition of photographs of unphotographed landmarks of Chomoutov, which the representatives of the association uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, but also prepared a special exhibition of them during the event. Thus, the participants of the celebration not only learned about the initiative of the association itself, but also about the possibilities to get involved in the mapping of the district, or how to upload more photos to the Commons.

2024-09-13: We know what Wikimania 2024 was like

Last month, 1,100 people gathered in Katowice, Poland, and another 1,500 joined online to celebrate the Wikimedia movement and engage in discussions about its future and direction. There were 143 countries represented, and we, Wikimedia Czech Republic, couldn't miss the Wikimania conference.

Wikimania is an annual conference celebrating all free knowledge projects, organised by the Wikimedia Foundation. It is three days full of conferences, discussions, meetings, trainings and workshops. This year's edition ran from 7 to 10 August, and in total there were more than 300 sessions (in 12 tracks in 8 parallel rooms) for participants. In addition, there were other side events such as the WikiWomen Summit, the Wikimania 2024 Hackathon and many more.
