2021-04-07: The very first student WikiGap edit

Students and teachers from Biskupské gymnasium Brno spent today's whole morning editing articles on women's topics. They joined the WikiGap 2021 event and help us to give a foundation of the historically first WikiGap within the Students Write Wikipedia programme that we have ever organised.

After a brief introduction led by our lecturer and wikipedian Zdeněk "Hugo" Moravec, the students were divided into groups where, under the supervision and with the help of other lecturers, Brno based wikipedians, they wrote and edited articles. Thanks to the work of students, new articles such as one about the American philosopher Nancy Bauer and Czech archer Lenka Kuncová have appeared on Wikipedia.

For the PR agency AMI Communications, we organized a lecture on how the Wikipedia's control mechanism works, why and how use reliable sources or whether it is possible to edit at all if there is a conflict of interest. The other topic was about Wikipedia's position in the so-called "post-factual world".

Another series of our trainings and lectures for the public took place in April. Under normal circumstances, these take place in Prague's Klementinum (National Library). This time they were held online. The introductory training "Basics of Wikipedia (not only) for librarians" was followed by the "Wikipedia Writing Workshop". Eight people took part in both of the events. The following training "How to teach seniors to write Wikipedia" was attended by an employee from the Municipal Library in Přerov, where, we hope, courses for seniors will be opened in the autumn. We keep our fingers crossed for all newcomers!
