Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda/Wikisoccerthons
Introduction
editThe Wikisoccerthons project idea was developed in November 2019 at Wiki Indaba in Abuja, then the Usergroup planned for implementation of this pilot since 16 May 2020, and was approved as one of the usergroup's annual projects on 20 August 2020.
Objectives and targets
editThis project is part of the Usergroup's diversity and content Generation programes with the following objectives;
- Closing content gap about Uganda
- Increasing skills for editing/contributing
- Recruitment of new editors/contributors
- Increasing awareness of wikimedia projects
- Increasing Female Participation
Additionally;
- Increasing the diversity of Wikimedia volunteers
- Increasing the geographical reach (footprint) of the Usergroup in Uganda
Some of the project targets will be ;
- Seventy five (75) total participants
- Ten (10) new active editors
- Twenty (20) content pages created or improved
- Partnership with one or some of the national soccer affiliate(s)

COVID-19 Planning and guidelines
editThis section is based on the new guidelines and the introduced risk assessment tool for in person gatherings", sent by Janeen Uzzell on 10 September 2020, that are aimed at Wikimedia communities having the ability to safely host events and activities.
Most of the project activities and events meet the eligibility criteria, as they will have proper controls and mitigation measures to be implemented.
Local government restrictions and health guidance related to COVID-19 in the hosting country will be followed.
- Project de-brief and outreach activities will be limited to a maximum of 10 people.
- E-mail and phone communication will be emphasized as much as possible.
- There will not be travel outside the country.
- In-country travel between (Kampala, Jinja, Mbale and Mbarara) will be limited to a maximum of 5 people
- In-person meetings (if needed) will observe social distancing, wearing of masks, sanitisation/hand-washing, and other Standard operating procedures
Guidelines and measures
Please refer to the released checklist of guidelines Basing on the above guidelines and directives from the national Ministry of Health, and World Health Organisation
- The project team and volunteers will work remotely/online (from home or private spaces) as much as possible.
- Office space will be limited to 3 people, options of weekends and/or during non-crowded days will be explored.
- Depending on the prevailing situation, (If offline events are to be held), they will not be open to the public, but will be primarily smaller community events for selected project participants - not more than 30 people.
- Safety measures and updated guidelines will be constantly echoed to all participants and effected throughout the project (start to finish).
