Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda/GLAM and PDPO Community Information Session
According to its website , the Personal Data Protection Office is "Uganda’s independent data protection office". It is "responsible for overseeing the implementation of and enforcement of the Data Protection and Privacy Act No. 9 of 2019" which was assented to on 25th February 2019.
Furthermore , "the law, which expands the mandate of the National Information Authority Uganda (NITA-U), protects the privacy of the individual and of personal data by regulating the collection and processing of personal data".
As an organisation that collects, creates , consumes and enables the dissemination of a number of resources under a free licence, the Wikimedia Community Group Uganda (WMUGU) is bound by this mandate however the community we serve needs further sensitisation on this.
