Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda/Documenting Ugandan GLAM professionals on Wikimedia projects

Documentation of many notable Ugandan GLAM professionals is not of the best quality while for others, it is entirely absent from a number of Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.

This has been further revealed by searches that show for example only 4 Ugandan librarians covered on Wikidata (Link to Search 1) ; 7 Ugandan curators on Wikidata (Link to Search 2) and only 1 archaeologist (Link to Search 3).

Objectives

The project will be carried out in phases but at the end, these are the associated aims :

1. Increase the number of Ugandan information workers covered on the named Wikimedia projects (starting with librarians) ;
2. Increase the quality of new and existing content on the said entities on the given platforms ;
3. Upskill the contributors in various Wikimedia-related activities for example using conceptualising and planning a project including project budgets , using QuickStatements for mass uploads on Wikidata, how to make detailed captions for photos and categorising them on Wikimedia Commons;
4. Create visibility for the user group’s GLAM project , the user group in general, the individual contributors and the entities profiled among others ;
5. Create a sense of ownership for Ugandan-related content

Participants

The contributing editors are practicing librarians in Ugandan as well as active editors on various Wikimedia projects with no blocks on their respective accounts. They have contributed to the curation of the content
