Knowledged learnt from the conference

I learnt many approaches from other Wikimedians from around the world dealing with education. I now know that many Wikimedians are facing similar issues with us too.

Participation during the conference

15 August

• I attended the Google event and gave a talk about indigenous languages in Malaysia and their activities in Wikimedia. Later evening, I organised the WikiKata Bulan Bahasa Event in collaboration with Singapore's Bulan Bahasa. I also attended the Day 1 of the ESEAP Strategy Summit. In that summit, I explained about Kota Kinabalu and it was chosen to be the host for ESEAP Conference 2023. At night, all Malaysian Wikimedians gathered to discuss about the conference and get to know each other.

16 August

• I attended Day 2 of the ESEAP Strategy Summit and we discussed in a group on how to organise the hub properly.
• I was interviewed by press like BERNAMA that we invited about the award I will received later evening.
• At the end of the day, I attended the opening ceremony and I was awarded Wikimedian of the Year.

17 August

• Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia organised a small meetup to plan about WikiKata Bahasa Mendriq by Wafiq with BERNAMA.
• I attended a talk by the Bashkir community which mostly written by the elderlies are able to do so.
• I was interviewed again with Eugene about our awards.
• I attended workshops by the Paiwan and Puyuma communities from Taiwan with the Kent Wiki Club
• I joined the global group photo with all Wikimaniacs.
• At the end of the day, I participated in the Wikipedia race and watched a Wiki fashion show where my friend Ali joined.

18 August

• I attended and recorded the Inauguration Ceremony for the Kent Wiki Club by the Kadazandusun delegates. It took a long time to make this a success.
• I watched the Kadazandusun and Bajau Sama delegates perform their cultural dances and joined them with other Wikimanians as well.
• At the end of the day, I joined the karaoke session with Wikimanians where we all sang and danced through the night.

19 August

• I gave a talk about Wikimedia collaborations with embassy which I think something that is valuable and every community should try.
• At the end of the day, I attended the dinner at Gardens by the Bay with other Malaysian Wikimedians and had a fun time.

Plans after the conference

• Conduct more events in Malaysia.
• Increase more collaborations between countries
• Increase more volunteers in Malaysia

Comments regarding the conference

The conference was enjoyable and I wished I could join all the talks. I was occupied with meetings and interviews throughout the conference.
