This page is the 2022 Annual Report for Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia (MYS) for the period of 10 September 2021 – 9 September 2022. This annual report is the fifth report submitted by the user group after its official formation and formal recognition on 10 September 2017.

Background edit

This fifth year of the user group establishment saw some of the return to normal like the pre-COVID-19 pandemic. In total within the year period, the user group had made a total of nine face-to-face meetup, including the very first face-to-face WikiGap in Malaysia.

While outreach works still faced some difficulties and challenges due to the shortage of human resources within the group, the user group managed to promote the Wikimedia movement in Malaysia by having itself written in two online national newspapers (The Star and MalaysiaKini) and two university pages in Malaysia (Universiti Teknologi Petronas and University of Malaya). We've created a strong partnership with a public university for further collaboration in creating more Wikimedia events in the future.

We've also managed to secure the approval for our very first year of funding from the Wikimedia Foundation and started the process to open up the group's official bank account.
