Wikimedia Canada/Membership Policy

The Wiki Canada Membership Policy addresses the rules and process involved with organization membership.

Eligibility edit

  1. Membership shall be open to any person who:
    • is interested in furthering the objectives of Wiki Canada,
    • is one of:
      • a Canadian citizen, or
      • a Canadian corporation, or
      • an individual person who has been lawfully admitted to Canada for a period of not less than one year, and

has no indebtedness to Wiki Canada more than 120 days old.

Expiry and renewal edit

  1. Any member may withdraw his membership at any time by written notice to the secretary of Wiki Canada.
  2. A member whose membership is not in good standing may put his membership in good standing by paying his membership fee and settling any outstanding indebtedness. This shall be done without a new application for membership, and shall be effective forthwith on receipt of payment.

General rules edit

  1. The annual membership fee shall be $10.00.
  2. A director or officer who receives funds in payment of membership fees shall deposit those funds into Wiki Canada's bank account.

New members edit

  1. No new application for membership shall be received without the payment of fees.
  2. Any director or officer may receive applications from new members, and he shall forward said applications to the secretary as soon as is practicable.
  3. Upon receipt of an application from a new member the secretary shall notify all the directors that an application has been received, providing the details of the application, and noting the date on which the application was received.
  4. Any director may, within 45 days after the day the application was received by the secretary, notify the directors of any objection she may have to a membership, stating the reason for her objection.
  5. When the directors have been notified of an objection to a membership they shall within ten days of that notice register their approval or disapproval, and where a majority of the directors so voting have expressed disapproval the application shall be deemed to have been rejected.
  6. Where an application has been rejected, the treasurer shall forthwith refund any fees submitted with the application.
  7. On a date that is the later of
    1. the 45th day after the receipt of an application for membership, or
    2. the 10th day after receiving notification of an objection,

the secretary shall enter the details of any applicant whose membership has not been rejected in the registry of members.

  1. A new membership shall remain in good standing until the day of the first anniversary of the entry of that membership in the registry of members, and shall thereafter cease to be in good standing.

Renewals edit

  1. A membership shall expire when it has it has not been in good standing for a continuous period of one year.
  2. A membership may be renewed and put in good standing at any time prior to its expiry by notifying any director or officer and paying the required fees.
  3. A director or officer who receives payments for the renewal of memberships shall notify the secretary that he has received the renewal payment, and of the date on which the payment was received.
  4. On receipt of a notice that a membership has been renewed the secretary shall make the necessary entries in the registry of members.
  5. When a membership has been renewed it shall remain in good standing until the first anniversary of the later of
    1. the date on which the membership ceased to be in good standing, or
    2. the date on which the renewal payment was made.
  6. Where a renewal payment is made after a membership has ceased to be in good standing it shall be treated as a new membership, and if approved may be treated as a reinstatement of the previous membership.

Multi-year memberships edit

  1. An application for membership may be for a number of whole years that is more than one but not more than five.
  2. Any part of a membership payment in excess of what is required for full years of membership shall be deemed to be a donation.
  3. A member who pays for more than one year shall be exempt from any increase in membership fees for any year that has been prepaid.
  4. Where a membership has been terminated for cause, and that member has prepaid his membership for years that have not yet begun, the treasurer may, on request, refund those prepaid fees to the member.
