What happened in August? edit

Wiki loves Earth winners edit

After 1448 photographs from 114 participants, we are happy to announce the winners of Wiki Loves Earth 2017.

We recall that for the national competition the awards go to the photographers and not to the photographs for which the podium is so composed:

  1. SamuelFerrara
  2. Inès Cot
  3. Felix Brönnimann

A special prize goes to the user Alexey M. for his drone experiments.

Instead, the selection to take part in the international contest is based on photographs and not photographers, and only the photographs of natural parks are accepted.

We look forward to you next year with bigger prizes.

Europeana competition edit

In 2017, as part of the commemorations of the centenary of the end of WWI, Europeana challenged Wikimedia affiliates to create a portfolio of their past and current activities relating to the theme of 1914-18. Judged by an expert jury, submissions closed on July 31. The participation of WMCH was accepted.

Picnic in Geneva edit

We had 17 participants, including a team from Lyon, for the picnic on Saturday, August 19th. The rain from the former day was nowhere to be seen, so we pic-nicked at the Parc des Bastions in the shade. Afterwards, 13 remaining participants came to visit the Museum of Ethnography of Geneva, and since Rama had already taken so many pictures of the permanent collection, we visited the temporary exhibition, on Indigenous Australian arts. Expect some nice pictures on Commons soon, as at least three contributors came with their cameras and tripods.

Picnic in Zürich edit

The picnic took place on Saturday 26th, and our reporters are for now awaiting to find out more at the time of press. Expect to find out more next month!

Announcements edit

Scholarships for WikiCon Leipzig and WikiConventon francophone edit

Of course, as every year we also promote travel, accomodation and the conference fees of € 20 for the WikiCon in Leipzig this year. For short-term decision-making, registration is still possible. Even if the hotel contacts expired on 20 August, a single room is still available for single persons. Please contact the organization team. The booking of the trip is self-employed and is then to be settled with the Expense Report with WMCH.

Des bourses sont également disponibles pour la WikiConvention francophone.

Community Space in or around Zurich edit

As announced in an earlier newsletter, we have complied to the wishes of the community and have opened the discussion on possible community space (in German). Unfortunately, it is still very small. If you would like a community space in Zurich, please join it to discuss your needs and wishes, or if you have an idea for a space, feel free to mention it!
