Summary
editThe Open Library project was targeted to libraries. These are institutions that actively search their new position in the information society. They do this due to both internal decisions and general state decisions. The Wikimedia movement is a product of the information society, and we know a lot about it. We share our experience with libraries, we promote our values within them, we encourage them to make a lot of works accessible under free licenses and using the information technologies that we use.
Recently we also started a new project, the Open Heritage project, that covers not only libraries, but also archives and museums. What may be even more important, it is also supposed to make regular events, regular meetings with wikimedians, using resources of these institutions, and hence to create or empower local Wikimedia groups.
Expected outcomes
editWe will share with the auditory our experience in reaching libraries, archive and museums, in promotion of our values. Also we will describe our vision of creation of wikimedia communities using facilities and resources of the above mentioned institutions, and expect to get comments from the auditory how it could be done more effectively.
