  • Legal and copyright issues and advocacy
  • (Media outreach)
  • (Wikimedia projects under political pressure)
  • CEE input to the Wikimedia movement strategy (hopefully)

Type of submission edit

  • Presentation (two-to-many), hopefully followed by open discussion (many-to-many)

Summary edit

While there is a lot of ambivalency in the Wikimedia movement about its involvement in public policies, we are actually already active in those matters. Still, as each country and language community is acting on its own, there is no actual consensus about how much, in which matters, in which ways and to which extent we should take part in the public discussion and action on the legal environment that influences free culture in general and Wikipedia as its essential part in particular.

Building on the example of Wikimedia Eesti’s campaign for bringing Freedom of Panorama to Estonia, we’re going to ask the fundamental questions concerning the relations between Wikimedia movement and its concern about our legal environment: what can we do? what should we do? how can we do it?

Target group: anyone willing to think about Wikimedia movement's role in society.

Expected outcomes edit

We hope to initiate discussion (both on-site and further on-line) on how to reach, or at least move towards some kind of common ground on our approach to public policy issues in the CEE region. Hopefully, our presentation might also click with User:Polimerek’s proposed talk on hot political forks and toilets.

15-20 minutes.
