Summary

One of the decisive steps of public policy work is approaching decision-makers and establishing lasting working relationship with them. Talking to people is a very social exercise and thus not an exact science. Nevertheless, there are numerous advices that can be followed to avoid pitfalls and maximise the chances of receiving an answer or being invited to a meeting. Research, personalisation, expertise and brief messages avoiding direct demands are just a few of the rules to follow.
