Wikimedia Botswana Strategy BootCamp 2024

The Wikimedia Botswana Bootcamp was held on June 14 and 15, 2024, at Aquarian Tide Hotel. This two-day event aimed to engage, train, and empower participants from the Wikimedia community, fostering a deeper understanding of Wikimedia projects and enhancing community engagement.

We also had virtual calls with most of our speakers, adding a dynamic and inclusive element to our sessions. We also hosted around 20 participants for the bootcamp 10 newbies and 10 long term editors from our community.

Objectives for Wikimedia Community Botswana Bootcamp

    • Ensure diverse representation and address content gaps.
    • Develop and sustain collaborations with Wikimedia communities and organizations.
    • Include mental health awareness and self-care sessions.

    • Explore new methods and ideas for community projects
    • Engage new participants and expand the community's reach.

  • Expert Sessions: The bootcamp featured sessions by Christel on UCoC, Felix Nartey on the Wiki Ecosystem, Tochi Precious on Community Building, and more.
  • SWOT Analysis: Led by Candy Khohliwe, this exercise helped identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the Wikimedia Botswana community.
  • Fun Activities: Participants enjoyed dancing, jokes, and writing motivational messages (sugar cubes) to inspire each other.

The feedback and outcomes of the bootcamp were excellent, with participants expressing satisfaction and enthusiasm for future activities. The event successfully sensitized, educated, and reflected on the Wikimedia community's goals and challenges.
