Edit-a-thon "Secret organizations and art" edit

In November, 75 members of the Armenian Wiki community enthusiastically joined the ten-day edit-a-thon organized by Wikimedia Armenia. It was intended for members of Wikiclubs in Armenia and Artsakh, but the event was open and anyone interested in the edit-a-thon could participate and create an article on the suggested topics.

The edit-a-thon concentrated on two main topics: secret organizations and arts. The theme of the art was related to the Italian Renaissance, the biography of the artists and their works. Articles from English and Russian Wikipedias were offered for translation, but some participants also created articles from other sources.

The edit-a-thon took place from November 16 to 27. 63 members of Armenian Wikiclubs and 12 other contributors have created 246 and improved three articles. In total, during the edit-a-thon the Armenian Wikipedia was enriched with 2,589,142 bytes. The great interest in the edit-a-thon is proven by the fact that during it the organizers had to update the list of articles offered for translation twice.

Saturday workshops edit

Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Wikimedia Armenia has been conducting online Saturday workshops.

4 workshops were organized in November based on pre-planned topics. This time the workshops were conducted by Wiki trainers of "Online Wikipedia Course for Teachers" as well as "Online Wikipedia Courses".

The workshops were simultaneously “attended” by both experienced editors and newcomers. After discussing the topic of the day the Q&A session started during which the participants discussed topics and issues of their interest.

More than 60 participants - 20 newcomers, 51 women - got acquainted with various tools and gadgets of Wikipedia, the order of participation in edit-a-thons, taking pictures and creating articles about monuments.

During one of the workshops, a Wikiclub and Wikicamp participant introduced two articles that she had improved during “Secret Organizations and Art” edit-a-thon, the content of the articles, as well as her motivation for choosing them.

WikiClubs' Report edit

November was a very busy month for Wikiclubs. During the month, the clubs worked both online and offline, following the rules imposed because of coronavirus. The number of participants during each offline work in the clubs did not exceed 8 people. The territory of the clubs and the property was regularly disinfected, the participants wore masks and maintained social distance. During the month the clubs participated in a number of projects. The most active club members took part in the "Secret organizations and art" edit-a-thon, in which 63 club members were involved.

Ddmashen Wikiclub has created a "green corner" for itself, where the club members placed different plants. They take care of the plants and take photos of the plants and keep them in order to upload to Wikimedia Commons later. The club also continues its work on Wikisource, and during the month the collection of Shirvanzadeh's works has been proofread and finalized.

Koghb Wikiclub held a video call during the month on the topic of word editing and improvement in Wiktionary, as well as the general rules of editing in Wikipedia.

On November 26, the Hatsik Wikiclub organized a video screening on contemporary art and after that exchanging views, as a result of which the editors got acquainted with Spin art, Tape art and Hybrid art forms. Later they created articles about them on Armenian Wikipedia.

The best articles of the previous month were again selected in Alaverdi Wikiclub: Duty-free shop, Robinson Stévenin, Masjid al-Haram.

On November 28, many Wikiclubs participated in the "Art + Feminism" edit-a-thon held at the Vanadzor Museum of Fine Arts, during which they not only created articles, but also developed their knowledge of working in Wikidata.

The work of the clubs in Karvachar, Togh and Stepanakert has taken place in very difficult conditions in the last two months due to the war. At the moment, the village of Togh and the town of Karvachar are controlled by the Republic of Azerbaijan. The clubs continue to work online, although they are located in different places and they cannot actually return to their places of residence.
