WikimediaZA-Goethe Institut SÜDAFRIKA Editathon

Whose stories are told and who is telling these stories on the internet? These are some of the questions the Goethe-Institut project “Decolonise The Internet” asks. We now continue our series of exciting edit-a-thons with the aim of improving Wikipedia by contributing articles about the African continent in our own languages! These events are taking place on Saturday, 20 February and Saturday, 6 March to learn how you can add and edit articles on the world's largest online depository.

Studies have shown that most of the articles on the Wikipedia are written from Europe and the US.[1] Therefore, we are challenging you to take up the important task of adding knowledge to the Wikipedia - knowledge that is relevant to YOU. We particularly encourage you to write in local languages apart from English to increase the amount of articles found in these languages![2]

The project is a collaboration between the Goethe-Institut and WikimediaZA. The workshop will be held by Bobby Shabangu on Saturday, 20 February and Saturday, 6 March. The workshop will take place from 10 am to 1pm on both days.
