Abstract edit

Mikanda reduce digital divide in DRC by digitizing and centralization of bibliographic Data from real libraries, in Kinshasa and other provinces in Congo. [This online catalog] help students and other researchers to know where to find knowledge. Problem number 1: collecting and accessing data when electric energy and internet are not permanent. And many other libraries managed without dedicated software and equipment. Solution 1: we conceived a mobile localhost Server, using free software, and running on mobile devices as well. Problem number 2: exchanging collected bibliographic data with Wikipedia projects, to make them more accessible, acting as librarians Wikipedia contributors. Solution 2 : Trying to parse UNIMARC (meta data) fields with wiki code external sources insertion, using Media-wiki resources and Databases. How to achieve this task with user friendly interface ? (future research, and possible collaboration with colleagues attending this event). Problem number three: DRC Libraries not member of Mikanda Network, up to now inaccessible through Mikanda online centralized search engine solution, in Democratic republic of Congo. Solution 3: Creating wiki clubs with librarians using our Mikanda Network tools, all over the country, with reliable equipment and human resources regularly trained.

Expected outcomes edit

Real collaboration with other IT colleagues, developer, working with libraries, about importing/exporting metadata unimarc (ISO 2709) from and to wikidata

Participants will be able to get an idea of the deployment of modern documentary structures in a region, with or without Internet, with or without electricity, and the modeling of this process for the benefit of wikipedia contributions

Implement our project extending Mikanda as a thematic organization, librarian contributors acting as internal wiki clubs.
