Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Host Eighty (80) participants in four(4) satellite events through our hubs. We hosted one hundred and three (103) participants and five (5) satellite events through five(5) hubs . Regarding how vibrant our community is, another hub proposed the idea of also hosting a satellite event.
Provide the opportunity for thirty (30) Wikimania participants with data scholarships We supported over 50 members with data scholarship We had to exceed the initial target because of the willingness of new members to participate in the Wikimania conference.

Learning

edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
  • --> The process to inform the members and non-members went well which led to getting a good number of our Wikimania local events.
  • What did not work so well?
  • --> There was a little bit of a challenge is finalizing with the venue as they were changes in the hall that was meant to be given.

Community Survey and feedback

After the Wikimania event we conducted a mini-community survey to get the feedback from members who participated . The survey was completed by 43 participants.

For most of our members who participated in our wikimania Satelite event this year this was their first time (86.5%). New members were briefly introduced to the Wikimedia community and were helped to create their user account although not all were success in doing so due to IP block. “It was a great experience and a great start for my wiki life”- Issahaku Tamale Wiki

Sessions

Members participated in a number of wikimania sessions with an average of 5 to 15 sessionsper person . Sessions that were mentioned were enormous and that included sessions like;

  • Digital Conservation through knowledge sharing’
  • Wiki advocates Philippines
  • Explore Ukrainian culture, with Wikipedia
  • Movement strategy”
  • Digital Security Basics”
  • How to organize a “Wiki Takes a City” event
  • How to work with Translate extension and stay calm
  • Leadership Development Working Group: What are we doing and why?”

Community usage and thought about the platform

From the comfort of their home most members were able to join in to watch wikimania using different channels. Almost half of the participants( 48.6% ) reported using the Pheeloop platform as the main channel for watching the wikimania virtual celebration. On the other hand, 40.5% said they watched through Youtube, and the rest switched between the Pheeloop and Youtube. We went to to ask members to share their experience with the Pheeloop streaming platform and here were some of the feedback that were gathered;

“The platform was a very good one as compared to last year's, but there were challenges; because some community members were not able to connect,so they had to rely on youtube more if pheedloop is not working.”-user:Jwale2

“The app is great. It was my first time hearing about it. It helped the organization.-User:Edithobayaa1

“It's a very cool platform. Very fast and simple to use. The guidelines given about the app made it nice to use. I think it can still be used for next future Wikimania festivals”- User:Yaw tuba

“My concern is about the pbeedloop platform, it was not all that smooth observing the online platforms, the sounds was not audible and find it difficult to navigate around the app.”- User:Sule-mafi

“I had a bit of difficulty with the Pherloop interface because it was new to me”- User:Bambiwa

“I had learned doxing and you can be doxed on social media.”

“I had challenges using the pheedloop app on my phone to access the live streaming and I think next sessions there should be some improvement.-user:Abdul salam’

“I did not like the way they App will direct you to watch it in YouTube instead of direct from the App especially using phone.-User:Anani A. George”

“It was great and I love the translation feature”- user:Abdulai Hamdan

“It was fun. I just didn't like the fact that there were too many activities to attend in a day on the virtual platform. Sometimes it becomes boring sitting for so long with your phone or PC engaging yourself in the event.”- user:Kwesi2002
