Goals

edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes, we were very happy because this was Wikimedia Fulfulde Community's first time in participating and distributing Wikimania scholarship grants. It was both a significant experience and a learning for us in knowing how best to support our community members with the necessary support that help them in getting the chance to be involved in this year's Wikimania local physical meet-up event based in Potiskum. We were able to support the inaugurated 35 members of our community with data supports to attend the virtual sessions of the Wikimania event on PheedLoop and Youtube, travel expenses for members who live outside the city, hardware expenses to support access (e.g the webcams, microphones, headset/earphones, speakers), childcare services to support especially women to take part in Wikimania, pre-Wikimania meetups to educate first-time participants on what Wikimania is all about, post-Wikimania meetups resulting from having attended Wikimania (food, beverage, meeting space) and prints related services.

Learning

edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
Coming together to gather under the same roof as members of the same community for the same time was so exciting, it was a moment that we hoped to see more of it. All the planned activities were smoothly run with no strange challenges except for what can be regarded as normal situation for every event like this.
  • What did not work so well?
We experienced network disconnections during the watch party sessions as some of the sessions were not properly watched on PheedLoop due to that problem.
