Wikidocs is a new idea proposed that may be suitable to become a Wikimedia Foundation project.

Software projects, such as open source projects, rely on communities to develop their software. Very much the spirit that wiki projects, including wikipedia, borrowed from. Because of these similarities in development and the commonality of the written word, the wikipedia format would be ideal to house documentation efforts of these projects. One giant faqomatic if you will.

Wikidocs is a free, open documentation environment. Designed primarily for OSS projects that have open documentation licenses, to allow community based centralisation and help in maintaining useful and well written documentation.

Benefits will include:

 * A common template for projects, with links to the sourceforge/related websites.
 * A common structure with FAQ and project info pages.
 * Having regular editors being able to use their time between multiple projects.
 * A clear area for users to pose unanswered FAQ or documentation questions.
