Foreword
According to Wikipedia:Verifiability, Verifiability "means that people reading and editing the encyclopedia can check that information comes from a reliable source". So far, it stands as the main answer to trust expectations of Wikipedia readers. The sociological consequences of verifiability
Till 2006, most Wikipedia articles did not include any tools to assert verifiability. The content appeared per se, as a result of a consensus-in-progress between editors. Then, came a kind of footnote rush. In order to respond to numerous criticism regarding Wikipedia accuracy, the encyclopedic communities began to emphasize scientific and media reference. Such a significant epistemological shift has wide consequences on wikipedian population. Proposing a new device to enhance verifiability
For several years, the project Wikisource has used a relevant design to assert its own verifiaibility issues: a pdf of the original text is put aside its wikisource transcription, so that users and readers can easily check the correctness of this transcription. This design could also enhance Wikipedia verifiability. With the growth of open access, we are able to find the original text of a numerous encyclopedic footnotes. Therefore I have created a new script that allows to check quickly and easily if a reference is accurately summarized (continued→)

Formal verifiability and community trust
The current practices of Wikipedia verifiability is mostly formal: the mere fact of presenting complete footnotes enables trust. A recent survey that I lead, shows that users who are well aware of scientific layout are deemed more reliable. In order to complement this facts and figures, I have made a comprehensive analysis of the rare cases where this trust is deceived: the formal presentation turned out to be only formal as the encyclopedic facts were not at all related.
