Intro/ Problem statement edit

Climate change has had significant impacts on the lives of people in South Sudan, including extreme flooding events. In 2022, 1.18 billion people globally were affected by such events, 27 million of whom were children. Despite this, there is a lack of information and understanding about how individuals and communities are experiencing and responding to these impacts. The change the Wikiforhumarights 2023 in South Sudan will bring is the availability and access to relevant information about climate change, rivers, and topics of impact around climate change and as well make sure the content created is also available in Dinka and Nuer Languages to make sure the content is available.

Objectives edit

  • To train Students, Environmental Activits and people passionate about climate change about contributing to Wikimedia projects.
  • To bridge content gap about climate change topics on the Wikimedia projects
  • To partner with local language communities and Academia to enhance on the impact of information about climate change
  • To educate and encourage South Sudanese photographers to contribute to Commons about Climate Change pictures.
  • Providing the needed support and coverage for minority topics on the Wikimedia projects.
  • To Help contributors understand wikimedia community guidelines and ask for assistance when necessary

Proposed Activities edit

1. Photo, Video, and sound Walk, Hunt 2. Translations via collaborations with the language communities in South Sudan 3. Editathon and training with the other Academia, Juba University houses many activists and students interested in studying or writing about the climate and environment
